Why
we are going back to Peru!
The last time we went to Peru
was in 2000. It was actually floating down the Amazon River
that was on my "bucket list," not Machu Picchu. We
were on a beautiful 16 passenger ship and had some amazing wildlife
experiences. (Or were we the wildlife?) Anyway from there we
added an option to go to Machu Picchu. As we
walked up for our first view, our guide Fernando made us keep
our heads down until we could see the entire area at one time.
When we looked up it was definitely one of those moments that
made the hair on your arms stand on end! I'll never forget that
magic and how excited we all were. One of my favorite all time
walks was when Gene and I walked up to the Sun Gate (Intipuncu)
above the Citadel. Sherpa's passed us headed in the opposite
direction as they finished their Inca Trail hike with their
heavy loads and only flip flops on their feet!
We have planned a return trip to this remarkable place in 2010.
We have included all of the unexpected delights and highlights
that make traveling with the Walking Connection special. We
will be staying in Aguas Caliente at the base of Machu Picchu
for 2 nights. Since this is a place that most
people only dream about seeing, why rush through it? (We also
really liked the hotel here and the town is a great place to
wander.)
We are also offering an option
of a full-day hike on the Inca Trail through the Sun Gate and
into Machu Picchu OR taking the train into Aguas Caliente and
from there, a bus up to the ruins. Choose the way best suited
to you. Both are amazing experiences and end up in The World
Heritage Site, Machu Picchu.
As always with the Walking Connection,
whether you want to do a little or a lot, YOUR dream vacation
becomes reality. We will help you live the dream! ~ ja
