walking
The trails we walk and hike are far different than anywhere else in Grand Canyon National Park. Though rugged and sometimes challenging (only if you want), the trails offer peaceful, spectacular and scenic views seen no where else on Earth. Your first short walk from your cabin downhill to Bright Angel Point offers one of the most spectacular views in the entire park! A warmup walk along the Transept Trail from the main lodge to the campground store not only offers close up views of the Canyon, it can end with a soft ice cream cone if you choose. We feature longer hikes on Widforss and Uncle Jim's Trail and for those seeking more adventure, a self-guided hike down the North Kaibab Trail will challenge even the most well-seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
connection
You can walk and hike the North Rim with anyone, so what makes The Walking Connection's hosted North Rim Adventure special? In a word, People! Start with hosts, Jo Ann and Gene Taylor. They are co-founders of the organization and have been leading adventures around the world for over 30 years! Next, meet some fellow travelers that have hiked with us in many places around the world. There will be new faces with well-worn hiking boots, smiling faces with brand new boots. ALL are welcoming and friendly adventurers just looking to share a fun few days in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Open space, fresh fragrant pine air and dizzying night sky -- Come Enjoy Grand Canyon's North Rim with Us!
NO CROWDS!
Our Grand Canyon North Rim Adventure offer walks and hikes on some of the best trails in the entire National Park. It’s sometimes referred to as the “other” Grand Canyon because of the 6,000,000+ people who visit the park less than 10% of them come to the North Rim. While that is impressive, The Walking Connection will take you to places where less than 1% of the visitors to the Park ever set foot! Our itinerary was built with social distancing in mind, 20 years ago. We avoided crowds then, and we still do it now. Each path we walk is wide enough to easily social distance with the few other hikers you may pass on the trail.
Motivation & Inspiration By Jo Ann Taylor

The Great Escape!
Level of Activity
Each day is your personal journey. Spend it alone, with close friends or new-found walking kindred spirits. Hike a distance and pace comfortable for you. Tag along or lead a pack. We'll provide you directions and details and walk the trails alongside you. We're here to enhance your Grand Canyon adventure.
"ON YOUR OWN, BUT NOT ALONE"
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COVID-19
The Walking Connection recognizes the new safety and virus anti-transmission protocols. In every phase of our operation inside the National Park, we will adhere to any rules or protocols established by the park.
New rules or best practices may be implemented with regard to the lodge, restaurants or any Walking Connection function. We will provide you with information as it becomes available and you will be requested to follow any new procedures when they are announced or separate yourself from the group.
Level of Comfort & Cabin
YOUR COMFORT IS DEFINED BY CHOICE
The sleeping accommodations on this journey are US National Park Lodge quality. Though in some respects they are rustic, the rooms are all en suite, and come with lots of personality. Although star ratings are not particularly helpful when it comes to remote lodges and camps, expect 3-star accommodations and services with zillion-dollar views throughout your journey.

North Rim Weather Happens!
July is a monsoon month. As such, the weather is volatile and entirely unpredictable, especially while on the trail. Summer temps can range from the mid 40s at night to mid 80's during the day. The climate is mostly dry with possible monsoon storms in the late afternoon.

Just a few words about safety. It's a shared responsibility, yours and ours. We take it very seriously. Your safe return home is our top priority. We love talking about it. If you have a question or concern, please ask or tell us anything.

Accommodation: The Grand Canyon Lodge - North Rim - 1st of 3 nights
Gene and Jo Ann Taylor, co-founders of the Walking Connection, first visited Grand Canyon in the 80’s and have enjoyed their stays ever since. Grand Canyon's North Rim is the crown jewel of the Park. It is frequently referred to as the "other" Grand Canyon because of the low number of visitors and spectacular wide-open views. The Grand Canyon Lodge – North Rim, which is the only lodging inside the National Park on the North Rim was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. Here you can enjoy the quiet serenity of the North Rim and the cozy comfort of the rustic cabins.
DAY 3 - July 9
Walk The Widforss Trail
Morning – Widforss Trail. A great trail that we never tire of! We have chosen it because there is great interpretation along the way for new guests joining us.
Because it is an out and back trail that follows the canyon rim everyone can do as much (up to 10 miles) or as little as you like turning around at any point.

Widforss Trail offers stunning views of Transept Canyon as it winds along the rim. It transitions into a peaceful coniferous forest with towering Ponderosa Pines, aspen tree leaves floating on the high altitude breezes and beds of forest ferns line the path. It opens to a stunning view of the main gorge of Grand Canyon.
